California Bicycle Coalition: Legislative Action Alert
August 17, 2006
The California Bicycle Coalition has identified four pieces of
legislation that, if passed, will improve bicycling conditions in
California. To ensure passage of these bills, Californias cyclists must
contact their legislators now and show their support. Fax is preferred,
followed by phone, mail and email. Also, please email a copy of your
correspondence to CBC so we can track support of these bills.
Following you will find a description of each legislative bills
purpose, proposed action, and a sample letter:

use=B&author=simitian> SB 1613 (Simitian) Wireless Communications: This
bill would prohibit a driver from using a wireless phone while operating
a motor vehicle, unless the phone is specifically designed and
configured to allow hands-free operation and is used in that manner.

Solutions Act of 2006: This bill would place a mandatory cap on
California's global warming emissions that would reduce Californias
contributions to global warming, protect public health, and spur
innovation.

specific): This bill would authorize the Metropolitan Transportation
Commission (the regional transportation planning agency for the 9-county
Bay Area) to impose an annual fee of up to $10 on motor vehicles
registered within its jurisdiction. The fee would pay for programs that
mitigate the impacts of motor vehicles on the environment.
